Image Use

Aptar.com is built to automatically size images properly for the component you select. As such, it is not required to size images to meet specific components. You may want to crop your images to focus on a specific part of an image. You will have the opportunity to do so during the content entry process through a cropping tool within the CMS. We recommend cropping at this point, so you’re able to test how your images look in the real site, in real time.

Optimize Your Size, Format & Resolution

With web images, you want to find the right balance between size and resolution. The higher your resolution, the larger the file size will be. In the world of print, high resolution images are a good thing, but on the web, large size, high resolution images can slow down your website’s page speed.

  • Images should be high quality, but no larger than 4000px wide.
  • The specific dimensions of the images depend on where they appear in the layout.
  • For main hero areas, you will want an image size no smaller than 1200px wide.
  • Smaller images may work fine depending on which component they fill.
  • When purchasing imagery, resolution of 72dpi to 92dpi is sufficient for web.
  • It is always easier to crop a larger image to be smaller, but it is much more difficult to make a small image larger. For that reason, it may be best not to overly crop your images ahead of content entry.
  • File sizes can range between 300KB to 1MB depending on the dimensions and resolution of the image
  • Photos should nearly always be JPGs. PNGs should only be used when a transparent background is needed, or for images with few solid colors e.g. logos

  • Main Product Listing Image (visible in quick view and standard “thumbnail” used for all catalog types)
  • Dispensing Only Products:  hero shot, pump with slight neck
  • Full Packaging Products:  full bottle straight on
  • Gallery Visuals (secondary imagery to show different views of the component, the component on bottle, and any “in life” or editorial photos we have of the product) – Hero shots: component multi-view, on bottle. Editorial shots: in life/stylized

Aspect Ratio: 515 x 418

  • jpeg format, white background, slight drop shadow. Pump should face forward or to the right.
  • File Naming Nomenclature: in an order to ensure SEO for site images, please save the files under the below naming convention:

Creative Direction for Hero Shots:

  • The product itself should take up 85% of the shot if possible. It is preferred to have more white space on the sides than on the top (mobile rendering).
  • The product images should look as visually similar in aesthetic feel.
  • When a product is white on white, enhance the hero product to ensure it doesn’t blend into the background.
  • If you are getting your own photography done, please share visual examples on our site with the photographer as part of the briefing process.
All photos must be approved by Global Marketing prior to upload.
